Golf Courses

Royale Jakarta Golf Club

Back-dropped by Gunung (Mount) Salak and Gunung Gede in the distant horizon, and located in rolling prime land just 25 minutes from Jakarta’s city center, the course was designed by Robert Moore Jr. from USA based JMP Golf Design Group. This latest addition to Jakarta’s incredible collection of fantastic courses surely takes Jakarta golf to the next level. In a total land space of nearly 100 hectares, golfers will find 27 enchanting holes to play that are divided over three nine hole layouts that go by the rather obvious names of the South, the West and the North course. A spectacular setting as it overlook the site in every direction.
The grass that adorns the fairways is Sea Isle Supreme, the latest generation of Paspalem grasses that have been developed over the last decade. It is used on the putting surface too.
The sand for the bunkers is brought in all the way from Banka (Riau Islands), and golfers that are used to playing bunker shots from the rough yellow-brownish substance at their own club, will find out here what it is to be playing from a real bunker. The somewhat powdery, near-white sand that is used at Royale Jakarta clearly gives a new meaning to bunker play.

Borobudur Golf Club

Once named the Tidar Golf Club (9 holes), this course went through a major renovation adding 9 holes in the process.
Uniquely, the course sits right in the very heart of Magelang, a typical Central Java “provincial” city that is blessed with amazingly beautiful natural surroundings that includes emerald green or golden brown sawahs (rice paddies) and that is encircled by a range of impressive volcanoes and mountains which are all visible from the course and literally every direction. These volcanoes and mountains are Mount Merapi, Mount Merbabu, Mount Sumbing, Mount Andon and Mount Menoreh.
Its fairways are now covered with High Greens 478 grass, while the tee boxes and greens are planted with Evergreen Bermuda, a type of grass that, because of its excellent wear tolerance and recuperative potential, provides a very good playing surface. Course maintenance is of world class quality.
With a relatively short total length of just 5.623 meters from the blue tee, elegantly the holes are placed in such a manner that the relatively small site really doesn’t looks crammed. The challenge on this new layout really comes fro bunkering and clever placing of water hazards that weren’t there on the old 9 holes course. The course truly comes across as cozy and intimate yet matured.

Merapi Golf & Mountain Resort

The valley of Kaliurang in the foothills of Mount Merapi is home to an enchanting golf course that was created by the renowned design team of Thomson, Wolveridge & Perret.
Sitting at 800 meters above sea level, Merapi Golf & Mountain Resort is situated on a relatively open plane and at the foot of the active Merapi volcano.
The front nine plays predominantly from the east to the west or vice versa, while the back nine plays predominantly north to south or to and from the mountain.
The greens are rather deceptive and according to the caddies the majority of the puts towards the mountain are downhill although you would swear they were uphill. It’s highly confusing but be assured that your caddie can give you a perfect read.
Playing at Merapi has something mystical and nobody can explain why, but the majority of golfers claim to feel the presence of the mountain with every stroke they play. Ancient central Javanese myths claim that the mountain plays a profound role in the lives of the people who live in its close surroundings and it is home to powers that can heal or destroy.

Ciputra Golf Club

Ciputra Golf boasts 3 nine holes championship courses that are situated in the very heart of the self contained mini city of Citra Raya.
Ciputra Golf covers 125 hectares of beautifully sculpted fairways and greens and is designed to be the venue for regional and international tournaments.
Designed by Andy Dye, the three layouts can bee played in a “mix & match” format. Ease of play makes the most popular combination that of the first nine, the Valley course, with the second nine, the Lake course.
The Hill course certainly is the “toughest” nine, and the typical “Dye” features are clearly evident on every hole; undulating fairways and greens, gaping and deep fairway bunkers and many unfriendly hazards that require carry.
Ciputra Golf and Country Club, on the whole, provides a most enjoyableexperience. The 27 holes of golf are a fair test for all players of all levels. The course maintenance is very good and the greens are outstanding.
Night golf is available, as well as an aquatic driving range, swimming pools, tennis & squash courts, fitness & aerobic, karaoke, billiard, a library and a kids club.

Nirwana Bali Golf Club

Nirwana Bali Golf Club needs no further introduction. For more than one decade, this Greg Norman designed championship golf course has been recognized internationally as one of the world’s finest layouts.
As of April 1, 2010, a new management company took over the course and the on-site 5-star hotel hence its name change into Pan Pacific Nirwana Bali Resort.
With the new Pan Pacific team at the helm of one of the Asia’s finest golf resorts, things can only get better. Comprehensive plans have been put in place to make Nirwana Bali an even more attractive holiday stop for golfers.

Take in Bali’s rich culture on the breathtakingly dramatic par 3 hole #7 signature hole that offers a view on Bali’s most recognized landmark, Tanah Lot Temple. Four sets of tees to provide every golfer with an ideal combination of challenge and enjoyment. The distinctive Greg Norman bunkering protects many of the greens and this is especially noticeable on many of the wonderful par four holes.

Mountain View Golf Club

Designed by Peter Thomson and Ross Perret, Dago Mountain View is the latest addition to Bandung Golf.
The course is part and parcel of stunning residential mountain resort called Dago Pakar. It sits at an altitude of about 800 to 1200 meters above sea level hence it offers bird’s eye views on the entire city of Bandung.
As the holes are carved out of the side of a mountain, they are situated at different levels in the site. Some are rather narrow.
Most holes are stunning but hole #10 must be the winner of them all. From the back marker that sits some 50 to 80 meters above the fairway, a precise tee shot to a narrow fairway is required. Your second shot needs to land dogleg right on an uphill but rather small green.
Mountain View is the absolute jewel in the crown of Bandung golf and needs to be included in your golf trip to Bandung.
To get to mountain View you have to get to the Dago district first. From there you follow the signs that will make you climb up to Dago Pakar Resort.

Bandung Giri Garhana Golf And Resort

It was designed by Michael Coates & Associates on a site that lies some 900 meters above sea level.
Like most of the newer courses in Indonesia that were designed by internationally acclaimed designers, the Giri Gahana layout is of immaculate quality with plenty of fabulous holes.
Located at such high altitude, obviously the area offers a pleasant climate and cool and fresh air especially in the morning and late afternoon.
The impressive resort hotel that is perched on a hill the distance is a genuine eye opener and is a real treat for golfers with non-playing spouses and kids. Giri Gahana truly is a spectacular golfing get-away. Go, stay and play and be prepared to return to Giri Gahana more than once a year due to strong pressure and demand from your wife and kids.

Klub Golf Bogor Raya

As it is home to some 8 fantastic courses, the Bogor region is often called the Mecca of Indonesian golf. Klub Golf Bogor Raya (KGBR) is located right in the very heart of it.
This Graham Marsh designed course is set amidst the 400 hectare integrated resort development of Bogor Lake Side and offers a friendly but challenging to players of all levels of skill. With a choice from 4 tee box positions, the black is the toughest.
The KGBR layout is a testament to what golf in Indonesia is all about; a quality facility. The friendly layout is wide and receptive of wayward shots at the opening holes, but becomes more narrow and tricky on the back nine.
Through excellent maintenance and attention to detail the course gradually has been transformed into a genuine tropical garden and a feast for the eye. Here golf is played in absolute tranquility amidst panoramic views and mountain backdrops.
To get to KGBR you have to take the Jagorawi toll road all the way to Bogor. There, KGBR has a new and easy access that is located on your left immediately after you have left the toll gate. The hotel Novotel Bogor is located just a chip shot away from the KGBR clubhouse.
